The city of Düsseldorf is hosting the Expats Welcome Day Duesseldorf 2014 on September 19 at the NRW-Forum, Düsseldorf.

This is a chance for you to find out more about the city and the services available especially for the expat community. Information on what to do in your leisure time for everyone, the whole family, children, singles, newcomers and those who have been here for a while will be on offer and there will be numerous people to speak to from the international schools, insurance advisors, expat clubs, language schools, recruitment consultants, relocation agencies, city guides and a whole lot more besides.
There will be presentations you can join as you please throughout the day.

I will be giving a presentation for Düsseldorf Marketing and Tourism, a virtual tour of the city and then at 8:30pm in the evening RhineBuzz will be hosting a question and answers session. There will be plenty of ideas of what to do in your free time, we'll have goodies to give away, tour tickets, tickets for the performing arts, concert tickets, all sorts. To answers on employment in Germany, especially for the spouse who often finds it so difficult to find a place in the job market here, we will have Chris Pyak to answer your queries from Immigrant Spirit.

You can find the full schedule of presentations here.

Open Studios 2014 - Kunstpunkte

On the last two weekends in August, some 500 artists in Düsseldorf will open their studios to the general public. You can pick up a leaflet which shows a map where the studios are at many bookstores, cafés and cultural institutions around the city and at RhineBuzz c/o The English Language Forum, Neustrasse 39 in the Altstadt.

For this year's Open Studios - Kunstpunkte - there will be only ONE RhineBuzz tour on August 31 at 3pm. Seats are limited on the gorgeous vintage bus, please reserve with Petra Weiss at the Department of Culture, see details below. Petra speaks English. Seats are €15.00 per person.

The tours last 3 hours, you visit selected studios, usually around 5 or 6. Each bus is accompanied by two Düsseldorf artists who tell you a little about the arts scene in the city and the artists you are about to visit. Conversation in the studios is highly encouraged! This year I will be accompanied by composer Peter Gahn.
There's always a great atmosphere on the bus, many say this is the highlight of the annual RhineBuzz events; we are often told the time just flies by!

You get to see all genres of the arts by artists from all nations. Most artwork is for sale.
The studios are often in intriguing hidden spots in the city, places you would never even know of, let alone visit, if it wasn't for the Kunstpunkte weekend. Sometimes the studios are in former bunkers, churches, hideouts in the forest, or disused factories ... sometimes in the actual home of the artist.
